A zoo in China finds a "runaway" capybara after two months on the run.

A Chinese zoo announced Tuesday that it has captured the last stray capybara after several of the South American rodents escaped from the enclosure two months ago.

The female capybara, named Doubao (bean candy in Chinese), escaped with two other rodents from a zoo in Yangzhou, eastern China, in early April.

Doubao remained on the run for several weeks, although the other two rodents were quickly caught.

"The little runaway is back home!" the zoo announced on social media.

The capybara, about the size of a six-year-old child, was caught in a trap on Tuesday and returned to the park.

Despite two months in the wild, Doubao has gained weight and his fur remains "soft and shiny," the zoo said.

"It seems like he handled himself well outside," he added.

A video posted by the zoo shows Doubao sniffing a cage and pawing at the sides while a person can be heard saying, "Welcome home, Doubao."

According to the zoo, the trio escaped in April when another capybara, Bazong (the top dog in Chinese), broke through a fence.

Later they found Bazong resting by a lake.

It took seven or eight zoo employees to catch the second accomplice, Duoduo (hidden hidden), in a trash can.

But Doubao evaded capture, and in May the zoo posted a hoax wanted poster accusing her of participating in a mass escape.

Authorities offered a reward of frozen fried rice, a carton of eggs, capybara-themed merchandise, and lifetime admission to the zoo to anyone who provided information about the parade.

These rodents, also known in South America as capybaras or chigüires, have become an attraction in zoos around the world, in part due to the internet hype surrounding them.
